Can you believe it’s been months since all of us have travelled? With the COVID-19 pandemic raining on our parade of flights and road trips, 2020’s looking a bit bleak. Don’t let that bring you down! Even when you’re staying safe and healthy at home, you don’t have to miss out on all the fun. As you sit back and relax with a bowl of microwave popcorn, these movies will surely lift your spirits.

  1. Eat, Pray, Love

Based on the best-selling book, the film brings to life the story of Elizabeth Gilbert, played by award-winning actress Julia Roberts, as she embarks on a soul-searching excursion post-divorce in the most beautiful places in Italy, India, and Bali. Whether you were looking to go on a quest for self-discovery this year or simply wanted some time to unwind on your own, maybe you’ll find some ideas for when the trip finally happens.

  1. Mamma Mia and Mamma Mia 2

Is there anything better than an all-star cast singing your favorite ABBA hits? Set in a fictional beach town in Greece, laugh, cry, and sing along to songs like ‘Dancing Queen’ and ‘Super Trouper’ as Donna and the Dynamos smash us in their loud and sparkly costumes and the three dads, played by Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth, and Stellan Skarsgard, awkwardly (and very cutely!) dance to the music. With all the craziness happening in Donna’s life, both Mamma Mia installments are absolutely really good picker-uppers.

  1. I’m Drunk, I Love You

A local box office hit starring Paulo Avelino and Maja Salvador, the film takes us on a spontaneous road trip to the small beach town of La Union. From music festivals on the beach to hole-in-the-wall eats, the film might have you planning your next road trip with your barkada already. We must warn you though, comedic moments aside, the film also involves a lot of ~feelings~, so this is definitely not for the weak of heart!

  1. Midnight in Paris

A critically-acclaimed Woody Allen film, it delves into the story of Gil, played by Owen Wilson, who is a writer trying to finish his novel while vacationing in Paris with his fiancee. He ends up going on his own Parisian adventure as the city comes alive at night. The plot thickens as he literally gets transported in time and meets icons like Hemingway and Picasso. We may not be able to walk the streets of France just yet, but this film will surely have you dreaming.

  1. Letters to Juliet

This one’s for all you rom-com fans out there. We’re always a sucker for the love-hate relationship trope and that is definitely what you’re getting from the movie. Amanda Seyfried’s character, Sophie, sets out to help a newfound friend find the long lost love of her life while she finds love herself. Set in one of the most romantic places in the world, we’re keeping our fingers crossed we’ll all get to travel to Italy the soonest.

  1. The Bucket List

Starring veteran Hollywood actors, Morgan Freeman and Jack Nicholson, the film narrates the story of two elderly and terminally-ill men who befriend each other and decide that they needed to live their lives to the fullest with the little time that they have left. With a list of everything they wanted to do and every place they wanted to go to, the two start globetrotting around the world. If you’re looking for a film that’ll tug on your heartstrings and truly move you, this has got to be it.

With so much uncertainty during these trying times, we hope these films will keep you entertained, at least for a while. When you have the time, maybe you can make your own bucket list! We hope you’ll include Palawan, of course. When you’re ready to cross that off your list, we’d be more than happy to help you make the most out of it.
